LOS ANGELES, CA — November 24, 2021 — Magma Math, the company that has pioneered the handwriting toolkit for creating equitable math classrooms used in schools and districts across the United States and Sweden, announced today their partnership with FUNDAPROMAT. This partnership is exciting as it is an example of Magma Math's commitment to support educators to create more equitable and accessible classrooms, as well as FUNDAPROMAT's mission to promote the study of mathematics in Panama and all over the world.

Students and educators alike will benefit from the partnership between these two organizations and their focus on making math fun, engaging, and an immersive learning experience. Educators using Magma Math K-12 can easily transform their math classrooms into an equitable math classroom, empowering the students' voice by allowing them to show all of their work, not just the final answer. Teachers can anonymize the students' working and project it on a whiteboard, creating safe spaces for mathematical discussions about how the students thought about and solved their problems. By creating a collaborative environment, Magma Math lowers math anxiety and allows students to build confidence to see themselves as mathematicians, fearlessly and bravely working together to have greater love for math.

In addition to empowering the student, Magma Math also empowers the teachers with tools to easily support their students by being able to qualitatively and quantitatively see the data presented to them through the platform. Magma Math makes it easy for teachers to create assignments aligned to specific standards, or even skills with a click of a button. Teachers can also create these assignments live, to stretch their students or offer more practice and remediation. Seeing their students' work in real-time allows them to very specifically give the support students need, something that no algorithm or digital program would be able to do, because only teachers can really understand the whole student.

"Magma Math and FUNDAPROMAT both share a commitment to empowering math educators with resources to support their students to fall in love with mathematics, as well as engage with math as a living, breathing, immersive experience," said Katherine Cheng, Strategic Partnerships, Magma Math. "Working with FUNDAPROMAT to promote an equitable math classroom not only in the US and Sweden, but also Panama, is our joy and commitment to seeing equitable teaching and learning practices extend throughout the world."

"When math educators get access to a powerful digital tool that allows them access to all of a students’ work, and students get access to a tool where they can fully express their math working, such as with Magma Math, teachers have access to not just the final answer, but EVERY piece of data they need to really support a student. This gives teachers superpowers to accurately engage students in how they learn math again.” said Henrik Appert, CEO and co-founder, Magma Math. “We are proud of our partnership with FUNDAPROMAT, because we know when we empowering teachers with the right tools and support, we also empower students to be fully heard in the classroom — this is the equitable math classroom we have dreamed about helping create.”

Magma Math is used by over 10,000 educators in Sweden and the USA currently. Magma Math is also certified for educational quality by Education Alliance Finland. Magma Math allows educators to assign lessons with many different programs, print and digital, such as Illustrative Math, or any curriculum.

About FUNDAPROMAT

The mission of the Panamanian Foundation for the Promotion of Mathematics (FUNDAPROMAT) is to promote the study of mathematics in the Republic of Panama and all over the world. Math is all around us and we use them daily even if we are not aware of them. The knowledge of mathematics increases critical thinking and the power of reasoning. Thinking analytically helps you make better decisions in your daily life.  Nevertheless, none of these benefits are acquired if people do not give math a chance and reject it, for example, due to negative past experiences. Through the activities organized by FUNDAPROMAT, we wish to share with the general public the richness and beauty of mathematics and at the same time, inspire Panamanian youth to study math. https://www.fundapromat.org/en/

Partnered Math Activities

Magma & FUNDAPROMAT have partnered this month to create a Christmas-themed math scavenger hunt. The activity is available in both English and Spanish, and will be available starting December 1st on the FUNDAPROMAT website. By solving math puzzles, students will be able to determine the exact coordinates of Santa's house. Try it out here.
